“Why is there an Adoption Fee?”
GMPR prides itself on being a responsible steward for all dogs in our care. As a rescue, we fully evaluate every dog that comes into our rescue by offering a full scope of medical services ranging from basic vetting to extensive surgery or specialist treatment. The majority of our expenses are medical related. Every dog in our rescue receives basic vetting for overall health evaluation, the majority require full vaccinations and more. Every dog receives while in our care (or confirmed to have received prior to our intake) a DHPP, rabies vaccine, blood work, fecal testing, spay/neuter, heartworm/lyme/erlichia testing, dental if needed, as well as anything else the dog needs prior to us making the determination that they are medically cleared for adoption. All dogs will be altered prior to adoption, even puppies will stay in GMPR foster care until old enough to be altered before being adopted. Every dog that comes into our rescue needs some level of veterinary care, some more extensive than others. We prioritize vets that offer a discount, but that discount is not very much. Your adoption donation does not cover the medical expenses in their entirety, but it does help to offset allowing us to sustain our rescue and continue our mission to save the next dog in need.

Estimated cost for the basic care of each dog during their time as a GMPR foster is noted below.

The purpose of Pug Adoption is to provide a healthy, happy, home for the lifetime of the pug. We see adoption as a privilege that families are selected for based on individual merit, not on a first come basis. The adoption fees are used towards support of the pugs (vet bills, medicine, food, toys, and other supplies). Absolutely NO money is paid to volunteers for salaries or mileage. Extra funds are used for rescue efforts. Many pugs will have something happen during their lifetime that requires some form of attention. The needs of the pug are most important. Pugs need stable homes, affection and tender loving care. GMPR requires a home visit on every applicant - no exceptions.

GMPR does not guarantee that a pug will be housebroken. Any time an animal enters a new environment it needs to learn where to go potty. GMPR cannot make any guarantee of a pug's age. Pugs will not be placed into a home with animals that are not altered (unless due to age restrictions). Home visits provide a good channel to ask questions. Feedback is used to help indicate a "best fit" for each individual pug.

There are many families that want to open their homes to a pug that needs a "Forever Home". Please respect the needs of pugs by submitting only serious applications. Adoption saves lives!

After submitting your application, you will be contacted by one of our representatives. Our goal is to contact you within two weeks, however, we are all volunteers and some geographic locations present a greater challenge. If you are not contacted within 2 weeks, submit a contact form to inquire further about your application status.. To submit an adoption application, click here.
